Cantigny Park and Gardens Part I

Cantigny Park is located at 1S151 Winfield Road, in Wheaton, IL. I like to go at least once a summer and see how the annuals are planted. Some years are better than others. See picture on left. Oh well.  We went Sunday afternoon (June 26, 2011) and my rating based from 1-10 (10 being the best anyone can do anywhere) is about 6+. I guess it depends on: 1) who decides what plants to plant; 2) who does the actual planting; and 3) who takes care of it afterwards. It costs $5.00 a car to enter and is run by the McCormick Foundation. You can also tour Robert R. McCormick's country estate. McCormick was the Chicago Tribune editor and publisher and according to the handout had an impact on politics, journalism, First Amendment issues, industry, philanthropy and patriotism. According to his lifestyle and gorgeous acres of magnificant property he appeared to have done quite well. Note: According to charitable non-profit statistics the foundation's total assets are $1,104,092,630 if you're interested in that sort of thing.

It did have a few nice highlights which will be in the Part II review.

Perhaps this guy is in charge of the planting chores this year!
