Innovative ways to turn a rented garden spot into home-sweet-home!
In these pictures, gardeners rented a plot sponsored by a local park district and decided to transform it into a homey oasis. They divided the space into individual sections. An array of herbs, vegetables, and annuals were given their own mini islands--many were planted in pots of all sizes. Others were dug into the ground and enclosed by a circle of decorative stones.
Add furniture: director chairs dressed in ivy-print canvas covers; a rustic spool side table, or a cast-iron bistro set with a patio umbrella. Don't forget the on-site compost pile, and include plenty of whimsical embellishments: rabbit statues, "Welcome to My Garden" stakes, fences, and trellises. And voila! Serenity! Serenity!
