According to the Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, official Fall Color Report, in two to three weeks the area’s autumn leaf colors will peak!
However, just don’t drive through town and not stop. Without getting out of the car, you’ll miss the best show which is strolling past the beautiful backyard landscapes with billowing gardens against a backdrop of expensive homes overlooking the lake.
Not widely publicized, a sign is posted inviting visitors to walk along the lakeshore paths and enjoy the natural beauty of the Geneva Lake shoreline. And homeowners are required to allow walkers through their property. So don’t feel shy—it’s okay, and lots of others are doing it already. The directions are to stay on the path of course. We brought our dogs (leashed) and took lots of pictures. Either picnic or eat at multiple places in the area. We stopped at Harpoon Willie's on 8 East Geneva Street across the street from the park where one of the lake shore's path starts. Casual food. Hamburgers and sandwiches were great.

We went on a cool day in October and hardly passed a soul. If you can’t do the entire 20 miles at one time, pick one entry point and walk as far as your energy holds out: either in the downtown area at Library Park heading toward Williams Bay—still pretty far—or in downtown Williams Bay by the park, walking toward Fontana, or get on at Fontana and walk toward Williams Bay. No matter which path you take or how far you walk, all the views are breathtakingly worth it.
Note: Any time of year is fine to do this.
