The 606 ( aka. Bloomingdale Trail) is 2.7 miles of multi-use recreational trail and park. Here's the map. According to the website, it is an alternative transportation corridor, a living work of art, and a spectacular new green space for all to enjoy. And...
the place is VERY BUSY! Why bikers want to ride on it, beats me. With baby strollers, dogs and dog walkers, joggers, wheelchairs, skateboarders, big wheels, wagons, etc. maneuvering around slow and fast walking pedestrians it can be a very dangerous afternoon of exercise if you don't concentrate on your fellow neighbors. We hopped on the path in the Wicker Park area and walked east toward the end at the Kennedy expressway.
Wanted to see what those people on the left of this picture were gawking at. It was a beautiful "private" garden. Looks like herbs and vegetables were planted. I wish my garden was that organized.
I bet these homeowners/gardeners are happy about the new reuse of this abandoned rail line! This is a nice example of urban gardening in small areas.

And the buildings with bedrooms only a few feet from the eyes of the walkers, will soon be finding ways to cover up their new public views.
This pathway just opened a few weeks ago. I hope they add some interesting perennials and annuals along the sides. Another interesting place to check out if you're in the area.
