Crushed Granite Over Asphalt - Update

I continue to receive questions about the crushed granite driveway posted in 2011 so I thought I'd do an update and upload some recent pictures along with some older ones for comparison.

A recent blog visitor wanted reassurance that the process we used to apply the granite actually held up and if indeed the one inch coverage was enough. He suggested maybe using two or three inches instead. One inch has worked for our driveway. I also suggested that he should experiment first by getting the granite of his choice and applying it to a 100 sq. ft. area. You can observe it, see if you like it, and note how it does after rain before spending a bundle on something that might not work for you. However, I still love ours; even after all these years!

I was also asked if we used a combination of a 3/8 granite and something else called "Breeze" which looks like rock powder. I guess the definition of granite varies depending on the retailer. But our granite includes "fines" (no combination-just plain granite). The closeup below is from earlier this summer where you can see the granite quite well, clearer than the 2011 post. The turtle is pretty cute too. She laid eggs in between the plants and we had baby turtles to enjoy for a short time!

The picture below was taken today.  The flowers in bloom by the way are asters starting to show, Autumn Joy Sedum, and other stonecrop plants. Lamb's ears drape over and on to the driveway.

We started right in this approximate area to see how it would look.
