Wanda's Garden Adventure Weekend

 February 12, 2011

Whimsy but not in auction! Darn
Stopped in at Susanin's Auctions desperately seeking garden whimsy like this lawnmower lady that went for $450.00 and it wasn't to me, though it looked a lot like me! My complaint is on street parking, which sets you back $3.00 per hour, and you had to crawl over a 5 foot snow bank to get to the meter. Thanks City of Chicago.

Then by sheer luck on the way to the Spring Show at the Garfield Park Conservatory drove by City Escape Garden Center at 3022 W. Lake Street, Chicago still desperately seeking whimsy--and stopped at this place which has a lot! Snapped a photo of this handsome dude hiding in the plants. A little big for my garden but they had lots of unique offerings to fit a lot of different pocketbooks. Will definitely go back when warmer to check out perennials. And big plus, the parking was free and I didn't have to climb over any boulders to get to the main entrance, just the company's cute cat. This place will do well.

While sort of in the neighborhood, didn't have time to stop at the controversial Felony Franks at 229 S. Western this time around, but have done so before. The organization/owner employs ex-offenders and the menu has a prison theme. Some think it is offensive, others don't care. Either way I don't think your stomach will complain much as you munch down the dog. (Update: Felony Franks moved out of this address and was looking at Evanston, IL who did not turn out to be the most friendly village either - Sept - 2012. I am not sure where they'll end up.)

Note: Felony Franks was kicked out of this location.  It has moved to 6427 W North Avenue, Oak Park, IL
